The Geometrics Exhibition opened on 19th April at Kingsgate Gallery, London to an eager crowd of textile lovers brought together at this first-of-its-kind exhibition shining a light on the wonderful world of geometrics.

Dr Emma Neuberg, founder of the Slow Textiles Group and co curator of the exhibition (with Daisy McMullan) gave a welcome speech and introduced some of the work. The exhibition has been a long time in the making, and brings together open minded and forward thinking textile designers of today. Emma sees the Slow Textiles Group as a vital platform for textile design, outside of academia, where textile designers can stretch their practice and work together, to co-research in open source visual, material and creative practices.

The exhibition was thought provoking and inspiring, with the presence of many of the exhibiting artists providing the opportunity to discuss their work. The interactive nature of some of the pieces; Make Shape by Marie O’Connor, a playground of interactive geometric shapes to be tried on, and Interpsychic by Geraldine Peclard and Emma Neuberg, brought the work to life, and drew people in, creating the feeling of inclusion in a gathering amongst friends.

This for me was what I love about textiles, seeing my friend who has not stitched since school, picking up a needle and thread, apprehensive at first then stitching away within a matter of seconds!

There are a number of related events and workshops which I would highly recommend, having attended many of Emma Neuberg’s workshops in the past I can guarantee they will be practical, social, challenging and thought provoking. These are taking place alongside the exhibition, which is on until the 5th May. Pop along now or book your place before it is too late! Click Here for the full list of events.
